What is primary prevention?
Sexual violence primary prevention (SVPP) aims to prevent sexual violence before it happens.
What it is
Primary prevention involves working with the community to target the underlying causes of sexual violence and prevent it before it happens.
According to the NZ Crime and Safety Survey, up to 30% of women and 10% of men in New Zealand will experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime.
Based on kaupapa Māori ethics which are informed by tikanga, here are a set of principles to follow when running or evaluating a primary prevention activity.
